JE VAIS TE MANQUER
One cannot write about cycling and forget those who meant so much to us and lived so shortly but as Dr Eldon Tyrell says in the movie Blade-Runner: "the flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long..."
And how bright these flames burned: Tom Simpson, Marco Pantani, Fabio Casartelli, Antonio Martin, Francis Kruger and Ryan Cox...there have been so many in recent years but to be allowed to express my opinion; Marco Pantani was a sad story and one that should not be told again in the channels of cycling for he was truly a champion.
Then there is the South African champion of years gone by, soft spoken, elegant on the bike but a tortured soul off it. I did not know Francis personally and only spoke to him once but his relative a very close friend of mine today, has shared with me the histories of the Kruger’s which I am grateful for.
In 2003 I had my first major Art Exhibition and I did a pencil and ink rendition in dedication to Fabio and it sold immediately, I was very pleased.
To their loved ones, we salute you for they are missed and remembered.
